Benefits of Organic Coconut Oil

Coconut Oil Benefits

Coconut oil has many benefits and practical uses. It is most commonly used in cooking as a healthier alternative to processed fats and oils, however, it can also be used as a body moisturiser, hair conditioner or lip balm, among other things. With absolutely no nasty additives, our oil is crammed full of nutrients and produces a subtle but pleasant flavour and aroma when cooking or baking.

Our oil is beautifully pure and organic, harvested from lush coconut plantations in Sri Lanka where the coconut bearing palm tree, Cocos Nucifera, is a key part of not only the diet, but also the history and culture of the country. We are proud to be associated with supplier who also share our ethical stance, operating with consideration for the local community. In addition to providing regular work and a fair wage to all employees, our organic coconut suppliers also fund education in local areas and offer a food package to assist employees in feeding their families.

Benefits of Coconut Oil

Although coconut oil has a high saturated fat content (like most oils), coconut oil contains several different types of saturated fatty acids including lauric, myristic, palmitic and caprylic acids. These fatty acids are known as MCT’s, or medium-chain triglycerides, which are metabolised faster than their long-chain counterparts. So, not only is coconut oil metabolised more effectively by the body, it tastes great too and has many other uses!

How Can I use Coconut Oil?

Frying - Firstly, it’s rather important that you like the taste of coconut before you consider frying your food with it … if you do, great! Coconut oil produces a lovely unique flavour and aroma and it really does make a difference to the taste of your meals. Add a generous teaspoon of coconut oil to a hot pan and see for yourself how it can revolutionise any chicken, fish or meat dish. Similarly, it also works really well with stir-fries, roasted vegetables or nuts such as cashews.

Healthy Smoothies and Breakfast/Workout Shakes - We now know that a certain amount of fat is not only good for us but actually needed by the body to build and repair. If you’re looking for some good fats to add to your diet, add a teaspoon of raw, organic coconut oil to your breakfast smoothie or shake.

Baking - Coconut oil can be used in baking as an alternative to butter, however, it is best to use recipes which have been created specifically for coconut oil. Our coconut oil is vegetarian and vegan friendly so it will appeal to those who like to make vegan cookies, brownies or cakes.

Body Moisturiser - Coconut oil makes for a lovely and rich body moisturiser. Warm some up for a minute or two in your hands and be liberal with your application, your body with love it!

Hair Moisturiser - Scoop out a small amount of coconut oil and warm it in your palms. Slowly glide your hands over your hair for a natural-looking shine.

Lip Balm - Try using your coconut oil as a lip balm to leave your lips feeling ultra-soft and smooth.

Shaving Cream - Gentlemen, this one is for you! Coconut oil is a great alternative to using traditional shaving creams which often have additives that aren’t good for sensitive skin. Your razor will glide smoothly over your skin and leave it feeling refreshed. But be sure to rinse out the sink well, it is oil after all and can make the porcelain slick.

There are many more ways in which you can use coconut oil so be creative! Other uses might include rubbing it on stretch marks, removing makeup, shoe polish or to relieve cracked and dry feet or hands.
